Fixed Politician
  • While the Politician is alive, the game is in election mode.
  • When a player is elected, they can choose to lynch a player of their choice.
  • At the start of the game, picks two players to gerrymander. During an election, the first player's vote will count as 2 when voting for the Politician, while the second player's will count as 0.
  • Wins at the end of the game if ever elected. Wins a fraction of points for each time elected.

Ok I updated the role to adjust its feel (haha I fixed a fixed role).

1) Added the election mode idea. It's actually a little thematic that elections end if the politicians die, because the town devolves into a mob if democracy can't do its work.

2) Gave the Politician the ability to gerrymander. It makes for a meaningful choice to vote for one politician over another if there is more than one of them, and also serves to help the Politician pick a side.

3) Like the Lyncher, made the Politician win different amounts of points based on how well they did. Pointless for sandbox, yeah, but so is winning yet people still try to do that anyways.

I don't like the idea of having only one election; I think there should be multiple chances for the politician to be elected for two reasons:

1) It sucks if you only have one chance to be elected and the town just doesn't care to elect you (because of sheriff or something). More than one election means that he can break deals for the next one if he loses the first.

2) If there is more than one politician in the setup, voting for one over the other is entirely arbitrary. This is still true for multiple elections, but much less fun if there is only one election. Maybe the role can get some kind of night/day action to fix that?

Also, I don't know what you mean by "a successful overthrow would suffice for a win condition."

I agree with nearbeer that current politician is dumb (it should be called mercenary or flip-flopper or something).

I also like this idea, but I would say he gets only one election (which he can decide when to use the night before) and it gives him gov powers which he can use at his discretion. This way he may entice one side to vote for him one day and then betray and overthrow to them the next. I think a successful overthrow would suffice for a win condition.

Understandable, a lot of people dislike the current politician, and it is a pretty niche role. This idea, however, has a lot of potential.

That's fair, I just don't like how the current politician is just poorly designed and basically "politicians are random and dumb lul"

I'd rather see a politician that is prone to being corrupted and also has to appeal to the masses rather than forcing both of them on an interval.

I'm also not certain on the election mechanism. It's a good idea, but I don't know if it should be directly coupled with the role.

How about this: the election mechanism is a game mode onto itself so it can be used in setups without the role, but if the game has the fixed politician then it will apply that game mode instantly?

Another way I'd change it is that the night before, players can vote for if they should elect someone to do the killing or just hold a lynching. In setups with day starts, day one is always a lynching.

This is an interesting role idea, but I don't think it should replace the current politician. Maybe call it Candidate or Grandstander?
