They do not know who the Mafia are, as Mafia's names are shown as annonymous, they only see what the Mafia types during chat - so if the Mafia carelessly discusses who to kill and leave alive, or who to hook etc. Undercover will know those people are sided with the town.

So basically... they can read the mafia's chat... and then tell village who maf is. but if cop dies then they become mafia? and the "Their role will be exposed to mafia after day 3" Part is a bit stupid. because they most likely would have outed by then. hopefully...
