Crime Scene Investigation

The Miami-Dade CSI department, led by of the stalwart Lt. Horatio Caine, is under siege by a criminal element run amok. A duo of cops of dubious credibility, a doctor, and a mortician are all that stand in the way of absolute chaos thanks to Miami's seedy underbelly of sex, lies, and brutality.

MAFIA ADVICE & TIPS:
================================================
[[JANITOR]], be wary of the Mortician! I would advise not janning on the first night. Unless you get lucky and jan the Mortician, the town's best course of action on the first day is to vote no-lynch to allow the Mortician to perform an autopsy. However, you could CC the Mortician claim as well, not permitting the town a "clear." Otherwise, consider taking the risk and jan on night one, since you have a >50% chance of hitting a town power-role. Be smart Janitor, your choice is pivotal here. [[HOOKER]], you also have multiple angles here as well depending on how day one plays. For instance, If an [[INSANE COP]] claims on first day and encourages a sanity lynch on a town power-role he investigated as "guilty" and that player claims Doc, you can hook the Doctor on night two and take out one Cop. Some other strategies available to Mafia include: Janning on N1, fakeclaiming Mort and demanding NL and Doc on you. Real Mort may CC, and you can hook him to prevent a day two reveal (yes, it works). You can also fakeclaim cop on day one to force the other cop out and render him useless through hooking. This is particularly effective if you luckily kill one of the two cops on night one.
================================================
TOWN ADVICE & TIPS:
================================================
[[COPS]], be wary of the lawyer's potential mind-games. Also, only one cop should claim on day one, so that the other can investigate without being hooked. On night one, try to avoid picking competent, skilled players as your initial investigation. Town may demand a sanity check, so lynching your "guilty" could result in town losing a powerful village-asset if you turn out to be the [[INSANE COP]]. Don't let yourself be lynched as a power-role without claiming, especially if you are a [[DOCTOR]]. If you still see a lynch forming on you, assert yourself and stop the lynch. If mafia were foolish enough to jan on N1 and you are the [[MORTICIAN]], try to discreetly encourage NL on Day 1 to autopsy the unidentified corpse. Also remember that as Mortician, you have the power to determine a dead cop's sanity, if it's not known and you are still alive. [[VILLAGERS]], try to draw attention to yourself so that the mafia think you might be a valuable power-role. However, don't outright fakeclaim power-roles, even if in danger of being lynched. That could backfire by having the real ones counterclaim, limiting the pool of players the mafia need to murder. Remember, this is a team game and you win if your team wins.

Please feel free to leave comments on suggestions to improve balance and/or fun. Keep in mind that I'm almost never going to remove the Hooker, Lawyer, and Mortician (i.e. the coroner) roles. It wouldn't be CSI without them! I'd like to consider expanding this setup to include a Watcher (i.e. a witness), but I'm not sure how to counterbalance it.

i really like this setup, good lasting time. lots of options for maf nd vill alike. lawyer hooker combo makes it a little tough for town, but also makes it a good setup for comp due to a need to scumhunt

I put my utsuho seal of approval on this setup

im not sure if you can make this ranked unless it has been plussed enought, even if you won

damint ive said it before and ill say it again miami is all about the killers

No one will use the janitor unless they just plan to cc the mort... by the time they find the mort, what is the point in janning?

I would also recommend ALWAYS lawyering the hooker, and NEVER the janitor... wtf man

I've been spectating a few of the games and it seems like the Mafia in most of them have made some serious blunders or ran into bad luck, so it's hard to tell if the setup is townsided or not so far. It only seems that way because of poor mafia-play.

I like it, +k for this

hmm, i like a lawyer claim of cop d1(inno or guilty it doesnt matter). it fucks up the cop that decides to stay hidden and unless the lawyer claiming cop is lynched d1(which is only done by a fail town)then maf is free to buss or protect as they choose.

this same strategy can be used if the cop is janned d1

i also like the janner claiming mort since they both will know who the dead is(but only if the cops do not know sanity, otherwise they will get caught).

If done right it involves scumhunting. We need more setups that involve scumhunting, so I like it.
about 14 years
Explain how this involves a large amount of scum hunting? You have a mislynch so cop sanity can be easily dervied and you have a doctor when the mafia doesn't have a stalker. This will be town sided for sure... Mafia are fucked.

Thanks for the feedback. Have any suggestions on how to improve the balance?

This actually looks like a lot of fun

See how nice I am to you guys? Look at that write-up in the description. LOOK!

Thinking about it, lawyer with 2 cops of unknown sanity is a bit silly. I was lawyered n1 and investigated by the insane cop -_-. I think stalker would be more advantageous to the mafia. Plus, having a mis-lynch means that CCing power roles and/or killing villagers turns the odds heavily against the mafia. Another possibility would be to remove a villager so that an ML is unlikely.
about 14 years
Yeah, I've considered the removal of a Villager. After this round ends, I may do that. Stalker does sound good, but I'm not sure how it fits the theme. As a "witness" I guess, but an evil one? Heh. Maybe one that's willing to be bribed, olol

Removal of villager puts it into MYLO on day one, for which the best course is not sanity testing, but NLing. That itself is advantageous for cops (another night of reporting for 4 total reports), since Hooker won't know who to hook. Not sure. Let's see how the stats work out. So far, so good.

Horatio, to improve the balance, I really think it should be changed from sane/insane to two sane cops. I've just played five games in a row where the mafia janitors one of the cops and fake claims as such. CSI Miami doesn't have the villains pretending to be cops, they try to hide from view and eliminate the cops.

I'll keep that in mind, Squall. Thanks for the feedback. For now, I'm going to hold off on trying to rebalance the setup. Even though ~30 plays is a pittance, Mafia seem to be leading in what most people declared a "town-sided setup."
about 14 years
It is town sided with the mortician... he can simply find the janned role so on day 2 it is outted. If a cop is janned, the mortician also finds out sanity. If the insane cop was janned, it will say so, if the regular cop is janned, it will just say he is a cop.

Guess we shall see.

Yes, Saints, and that's why the JAN DOESN'T JAN N1. This is the simplest base in this setup. Wait until mortician doesn't have enough time to find out role(lylo next day) or is dead.
about 14 years
Then why the fuck not mass claim day one if a blue dies? It seems the best idea and eliminates the janitor.
about 14 years
Just played this with a nice old mass claim on day one of all PR's and town won without missing a lynch. It wasn't difficult either.
about 14 years
Saints, keep playing it and gaming it please. Massclaiming was one of my worries, but we a few massclaim test runs, it didn't prove to be problematic. Let me know how your strategy works out.
