leaving the site has given me a bit of interesting perspective, so let's do this.

disagreeing with pitchfork is such an experience anyway. like when i agree with them i'm like "wow, i'm such an intellectual. i enjoy the higher arts and i am in my element with these people" and then when i disagree i just go " PITCHFORK"

on the whole i go to pitchfork to agree and i go to fantano to challenge my opinion
i regularly disagree with both but it's easy to rely on them for suggestions of things i'll find at least interesting if not good

yeah i've heard his second is great, but after hearing his first i'm pretty skeptical and uninterested

that's real lame. i only look up scores for albums after the first listen and that's only if i'm on the fence about how i feel because sometimes i'm really inarticulate at expressing how i feel about some stuff
then again anthony fantano follows me on tumblr and i regularly disagree with his opinions
i'm going to go ahead and shamefully admit that i look up pitchfork scores and maybe even theneedledrop scores coordinatingly to pick my first album on discogs
also we listened to different albums, i totally digged the epnonymous one (and the only one i listened to) wheras john kept craptalking it

i make an effort to start with artist discogs in chronological order for multiple reasons, the main one being that i'm terrible
i feel like i missed the hype train with sufjan because he's a prolific dude i just haven't been motivated to care about a lot of what he's put out yet. a 1/3 batting average isn't that great to me so i've procrastinated listening to anything else he's done
age of adz is my favorite but objectively illinois is his best
i haven't listened to a sun came or enjoy your rabit or seven swans but i've listened to everything else and he's pretty great, i should binge sufjan albums soon tbh

a sun came, enjoy your rabbit, and michigan. first two i don't really enjoy that much though eyr has like a few good songs as far as electronica goes. michigan was cool but i haven't listened to it much. it was a good somber album i just haven't bothered to listen to it more than 2-3 times so it doesn't resonate with me or come up fresh in my mind, but it was good. i've heard illinois and that one he did this year are the greatest things since cupped water so i'll eventually get to that

atlas is their worst album imo but that's because it sounds like Days which sounds like Real Estate
yeah then you're kind of missing out on a lot of the appeal of brand new. brand new's first album is almost entirely "I told you so" post-break up songs that are really fun and high energy but sound juvenile if you've never had a break up. tdag is like that but more emotionally deep and stuff.
