Anomalisa - it's a stop-motion animated film that's darkly funny but also very introspectively poignant. totes worth the time and money.

The Lobster - dystopian sci-fi film whereby love is the main problem. the world it builds is great and is hilarious at times as well. basically the premise of the film is that if you don't find a life partner within a month after reaching adulthood, you'll be turned into an animal of your choice. the protagonist's choice is a lobster, hence the title.

Bone Tomahawk - western/horror film starring kurt russell and his hateful 8 beard. it's a pretty cut and dry horror film but it's very well done. probably has the most gruesome death scene in a decade too.

Dope - it's like superbad but cooler

Me Earl and the Dying Girl - it's like the fault in our stars but funnier

If you really really want a good movie, just look for a movie you liked and see if there's a sequel to it. They're always better
