what were the weirdest realizations you had once you moved out from your parents / started living in dorms. I leave for university in a month and I just realized I have to fold my own laundry.
No curfew and not having to tell my parents where i'm going and when i'll be home... like.. i just...walk in the door... whenever i want... wild... no one knows about my walk of shame but me...

When I was drinking booze in the shower after I got my own studio. Was a weird sense of freedom
at least in my experience, having a clean living can really make you feel better. After living in a pigsty for like 4 months I tidied up a bit for guests and it was amazing. I could see the floor. Everything looks so much bigger.
Dishes/Laundry/Cleaning Bathrooms, they never stop. Ever. If you don't do them, your home life goes to . It's an ongoing battle.
Groceries are expensive. But not nearly as expensive as eating out at restaurants/takeout all the time. Learning to cook (just follow the damn recipe) saves so much money and can be fun. But requires more cleaning.
You have to keep track of a lot of stuff, I wish a had a secretary to run my life. Like bills, car maintenance, home maintenance, taxes, various appointments, birthdays, kids' stuff (if you're a parent).
i think the first time it clicked that i was an adult was when i realised i'd been standing in the pound store for 20 minutes staring at toilet paper working out if it would be more cost efficient to buy 6 rolls of 2 ply or 4 rolls of 3 ply

i dont live in the dorms and ive always been very independent but. ive become waaay more frugal after moving out. i still can't cook anything good though
ya this is way too true, i just graduated college and im moving out on my own in a couple weeks. realizing how complicated financial stuff is has been a smack in the face. my high school economics stuff was basically "dont ever use credit only pay what you can afford and never borrow anything!!!!!!!!!!" and skipped the rest. but even that little bit isnt true bc sometimes youll need to borrow either a little or a lot
since youre just going to uni, my advice would just be to really question yourself before you spend anything, i know a lot of people who made their student debts much worse by going on big trips for spring/summer break and going on massive free travel trips on top of long study abroad programs and still buying lots of everyday luxuries, all paid for with a credit card or student loan money. it's easy to drop money when you dont have to face immediate consequences for it, but you have to pay the bills eventually no matter what. ask yourself whats worth either working for for weeks/months in advance or paying off for years later
Honestly the weirdest thing about living in dorms is coming home from dorms. I lived in a dorm last school year and came home for one last summer before i officially moved out. After "living on your own" or without parental restrictions, it's hard to get used to having them again. Also, using that freedom wisely. Because no one is gonna yell at you if you don't go to class/sit on your a$$ all day. And come winter time, skipping class is so easy to want to do.

That you have to buy utensils, they don't just exist. Like can openers.
Adulting is what happens after school. Synonymous with debt.

TBH dorming isn't really living on your own, it's more like a longer summer camp but much more expensive lol. You'll likely have a meal plan so you won't have to cook, and most stuff you have to do you should have already been doing like laundry, making your bed, waking up for classes.

my weirdest realization is u have to have insurance for everything and the whole insurance system is rigged against you
