Julian Assange & WikiLeaks

over 8 years

Greetings Epicmafia community,

I think it's time we had a civilised discussion on the ethics, pros, cons and everything inbetween as it relates to WikiLeaks and it's founder; Julian Assange.

Some questions I think would be productive to debate:

  • Is what WikiLeaks does justified?
  • The United Nations' Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Julian Assange has been "arbitrarily detained" and that his detention should be brought to an end. Do you agree with them?
  • Some theorists speculate that Julian Assange has been killed, on account of his lack of recent public appearances and fabricated videos of him. What do you think about this?
  • How influential do you believe WikiLeaks to have been in the recent 2016 Presidential Election?

In the case that Wikileaks is compromised and Assange is dead, it won't matter. Too much has been exposed (Pizzagate anyone?) and the few good souls far enough inside will start to leak what they have if they have to. Another organization will crop up in their place if they start publishing fraudulent information planted by government organizations.

At least, I hope that's what would happen.

This was posted to wikileaks on November 8th and the writer is listed as Julian Assange, it's a good read.

You're really stretching for that one, Bebop and Jimbei.

Wikileaks is society's way of keeping the government in check when the government cannot keep itself in check. Anyone who votes no, please consider weighing which is more unethical: the leaking of some classified e-mails, or allowing corruption to go on in countries across the world.

Wasn't he interviewed last week by the Swedish prosecutor over the case? I recall hearing an interview with one of his lawyers on the radio, so I'm fairly certain he is still alive..

not exactly proof of life, especially when falsified video footage of him has been made

I think that everything Ohdearmycatisgone pretty much sums it up perfectly. I would change his Hulkamania ripoff slogan to "Assangeddon" though.

Wikileaks has been open and led by Assange since 2006. The group has never done any more or any less than what they were doing for the Clinton emails.
They aren't a hacker organization, it would seem they get their documents through fair play and have never been found to share falsified information.
I don't think he's dead because killing him while he's detained would make it too obvious.
I think wikileaks played a large role in the election. 90% of the criticisms people had about Clinton would have been kept under lock and key if it weren't for wikileaks exposing it.

What are you gonna do when Assangamania run wild on you?

The United Kingdom have spent over £12,000,000 ($15,000,000) on the Assange siege.
