Christmas vs Holidays

over 8 years

Another Christmas brings yet another debate to this website.

I am genuinely interested in knowing what everyone thinks of the whole "It's Happy Holidays not Merry Christmas" thing? What do you think of Christmas in general?

I believe that Christmas should remain a Christian holiday and that atheists or people of other religious preferences should not do it out of solidarity.

If you disagree with the above statement it means you accept that your society has been built on European culture which is white and that being white should also remain the norm in your society. Discuss.

I'll take the bait. I personally was raised Christian, though I don't identify with any one religion currently. As Jimbei said, anymore Christmas is commercialized with barely any meaning towards it anymore.

Though I don't identify completely with the Christian religion, I still celebrate Christmas and believe it is a very special and important holiday in its own right. Most Christians in this current day and age do not even celebrate it because of their religion but rather because "presents and family".

I celebrate it because I find it a wonderful time to reconnect with people I have not seen in a long time and because I also feel like it's a great season to go out of my way to do things I usually wouldn't do. Ex. make people gifts, physically show my care, donate more than usual, be able to be in a cheery spirit to try to bring others into one as well.

I see it as much more than just a holiday centered around a religion, because yes the western world has made it that way but people will always adapt things to fit them and that will be that way forever. Instead of being negative about the situation, why not be cheery and extra nice and helpful during the holiday season? I don't think it's correct to shun people out of one thing or another just because they have adapted it and don't share the same ideals as you.

well, I don't want to be rude, but the conclusions you draw seem deliberately inflammatory. :/

One may assume that but I posted them to see what people think of it. These were just thoughts that arose a couple of days ago and I thought I'd share it here for someone to debunk them I guess. I was also interested in how people from different kinds of cultures (that is, countries) see this problem.

Christmas has been commercialized and has lost all meaning but in name to most people.

Nice actual strawman, though
