You're evil as the demons that haunt you, Forgetting what it was that they taught you. And now there's no one left to stop you, Or to catch you when you drop.
You're evil as the demons that haunt you, Forgetting what it was that they taught you. And now there's no one left to stop you, Or to catch you when you, when you, when you're...
Blood-shot, your eyes drop, And the skin's all wearin' thin. There's no one here to tell you 'bout the depth of the water, Or the trouble that you're in.
You're dancin' with your demons, baby, You forgot your former life. And it was hard swimmin' once And now you're daily divin' in.
And I'm bringin' home the rain (I'm bringin' home the rain)
If tomorrow never comes And tonight is all I got If tomorrow never comes I don't want to be afraid To come and meet you just the way that i'm not Cant do anything And then you die Judge the judgmental and what am I?
Either way i'm every guy I ever tried not to be I want everything as good as it gets I've learned nothing but that there is another sun rise coming All but one of the times it sets
And if tomorrow never comes Tomorrow never comes If tomorrow never comes Tomorrow never comes If we were all good people We could work in perfect rhythm If worms had daggers Birds wouldn't f*ck with them

"You look as good as the day I met you I forget just why I left you, I was insane Stay and play that Blink-182 song That we beat to death in Tucson, okay"
Halsey's verse and the last unique part of this song (the rest is repeating the chorus and the "We ain't ever getting older" line) Her part in this song serves as a direct contrast to Taggart's lines. It displays their relationship in a positive light, she is happy to see him again and states that he hasn't gotten any less physically attractive. She again, expresses regret, for ever leaving him and figures there was something wrong with her at the time. She prompts him to stick around and share a memory dear to them both (Playing a Blink-182 song, which also conveniently reinforces our timeline that we are dealing with Millennials here - a group likely to be nostalgic about a band which was popular in the mid 90's) She also mentions Tucson - another geographical destination. Repetition is also present here - she finishes off her verse with "okay" like the very first verse. NOTE: I use a kinda loose interpretation of the word Millennial because in general it is a word with a non-clear definition. If you look it up a little you'll see different people have different definitions for what they consider a Millennial.
As I previously stated, the rest of the song is repetitions of the chorus and previous verses. In conclusion, it's a sh*tty pop song that's been stuck in my head for a couple of days send help.

"So, baby, pull me closer In the backseat of your Rover That I know you can't afford Bite that tattoo on your shoulder Pull the sheets right off the corner Of the mattress that you stole From your roommate back in Boulder We ain't ever getting older"
In the chorus, the aforementioned regretful decision has been made. One thing I want to point out is the chorus is sung three times in this song - once by Taggart, and twice by both Taggart and Halsey. I believe this is meant to show that it is being told from the perspective of Taggart. This goes along with our previous statement of most of Taggart's lines having a negative connotation since the chorus mostly consists of that. Halsey singing the chorus with Taggart the last two times is possibly a stylistic choice, as is doing with many duets or could be saying something about the female's character or personality. Millennials are known to be unable to afford certain luxuries that their parents or grandparents may have been able to at their age - such as luxury cars like a Range Rover or new comfortable mattresses. Tattoos are big amongst this crowd as well. The last two lines mention a geographical location. Boulder has one of the biggest party schools in the state. Along with the very last line "We ain't ever getting older," this portrays an image of youthfulness.
After the chorus, Halsey and Taggart since "We ain't ever getting older," twice more. Repetition. This displays the sort of immortality or invincibility that some young people believe they have when they are young and feeling whimsical for lack a better word.

Onto the second part of the first verse, still sung by Andrew Taggart:
"Hey, you tell your friends It was nice to meet them But I hope I never see them again"
Again, the "Hey" at the beginning is repeated. In general I think the Millennial generation have a tendency to be 'fake' with their friends or significant other's friends - which is exactly what this part of the song is portraying. It is also a pretty immature thing to do, which goes back to our mention of whimsical youth. The theme of regret continues throughout this line by saying he hopes he never sees her friends again - implying he would be better off not having met them in the first place. Next, the pre-chorus:
"I know it breaks your heart Moved to the city in a broke-down car And four years, no calls Now you're lookin' pretty in a hotel bar And I-I-I can't stop No, I-I-I can't stop"
Heartbreak is a regretful thing. So is moving to in a nearly broken vehicle, depending on how it turned out. (This is also something that a Millennial would do immediately after college - trying to forge a new life for themselves.) After seeing the female he has been talking about in a hotel bar after four years, he can't stop himself from doing something about it and may make a decision he regrets (seeing as how the relationship didn't seem to end in in a positive way.) Repetition of the worth "I" could show another flaw of the individual, selfishness or narcissism, which is present in many youth today. The first geographical setting is introduced here - mentioning a city but not by name, yet.

I think "Closer" by the Chainsmokers has the most lyrical depth of any song released in 2016. It's lyrics convey themes such as: regret in the context of romantic relationships, the adversity or struggle that a Millennial in today's world may face, and the whimsical nature of adolescence. It also utilizes repetition of words/phrases, juxtaposition (specifically between the female's and male's verse) and geographical locations (as a way to 'distance' or further along the story the song is trying to tell) to more easily get these themes across.
We begin with the first half of the first verse sang by Andrew Taggart of The Chainsmokers:
"Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you I drink too much And that's an issue, but I'm okay"
The first line of the song begins with an expression of regret. Being fine before meeting someone implies they had a negative effect on your life as you get to know them or get involved in them more. This can be especially true of romantic relationships. I can also see this line meaning something positive, as in "I was doing just fine before I met you but I am doing great now that I have met you." But I believe the male's lines in this song are meant to introduce the female in a negative light and are just negative in general. Also take note the mention of drinking too much - a problem that many Millennials, especially those who are currently attending or recently have attended college are facing. This ties in with the youthful nature of the song too. Lastly, the "Hey" at the beginning of the verse and the "okay" at the end of the verse are repeated throughout the song.

i think you would like the album thirteenth step by a perfect circle
"I'm building this house on the moon like a lost astronaut, looking at you, like a star, from the place the world forgot. And there's nothing that I can do, except bury my love for you.
The brightness of the sun will give me just enough to bury my love, in the moondust. I long to hear your voice, but still I make the choice, to bury my love, in the moondust.
Nothing can breathe in the space, colder than the darkest sea. I have dreams, about the days, driving through your sunset breeze. But the first thing that I will do, is bury my love for you.
The brightness of the sun, will give me just enough, to bury my love, in the moondust. I long to hear your voice, but still I make the choice, to bury my love in the moondust.
I'm a castaway. Men reap what they sow, and I say what I know to be true. Yeah I'm living far away, on the face of the moon. I've buried my love to give the world to you.
The brightness of the sun, will give me just enough, to bury my love, in the moondust. I long to hear your voice, but still I make the choice, to bury my love, in the moondust.
whistle down the wind and world keeps turning and bottom of the world and never let go and home i'll never be and come on up to the house and dirt in the ground and a little rain and the piano's been drinking and hang down your head anywhere i lay my head are good tom waits lyrics songs
