no. no exceptions. only inefficiency

cause then you won’t miss out on so much music cause of mediocre first releases
about 7 years
see yea u should make some kind of album threshold before you apply this order plan

like maybe if an artist has over 10 albums u can start with a most prolific release?

i tried to listen to some classic rock albums but i had to start with the mediocre first entries they all did and died of boredom

it’s also particularly hard for old music. like, Miles Davis probably had over 50 albums cause labels wanted bank and he needed to make a living. idk, I can only bother listening to Miles Davis cannon at that point

I think if I had to sit through 8 flaming lips albums before soft bulletin I might as well not bother because they are so indulgent but when they really hit home boy do they hit home

i almost never listened to radiohead because i heard the bends and was like "this is it? this is what everyone loses their minds over?" and never bothered to listen to okc

then one day i'm driving and i heard karma police come on the radio and i decided to listen to okc

that’s fair in a way, I usually wait till I love an artist before I look at what’s considered their worst

like Pablo honey is a good example. I never heard that album until I loved Radiohead enough to be able to sit thru it regardless of how bad it is, and now it’s given me much more appreciation for where the band went afterwards

i dunno for me i feel like i can't appreciate apex works if i don't know what the journey and struggle to them was

like i probably wouldn't have been able to appreciate an artist's "best" album if i didn't know what their worst was
about 7 years
also zopilot is their debut I meant coroner’s gambit but I did listen to that debut
about 7 years
idk I usually go with most prolific album to see if I enjoy their most prolific work maybe I could get into other stuff

then I kinda go in order after that
deletedabout 7 years
i sincerely do not know how or why people listen to discogs out of order intentionally

maybe it's just an ordered thing but it Bugs me
about 7 years
they have like 17albums or so

and I have only really listened to everything post zoopilot so idk what happens before that but their first like 7 albums were just John Darnielle Home recordings

and then tallahasee was the first studio band effort and then they just got bigger and bigger I guess

good luck if you actually decide on doing it tho they’re jus impossible to listen to their whole discography kinda like flaming lips

i'd probably have to start from the beginning of their discog to get into them, i wasn't a huge fan of james mercer's voice at first but it grew on me with progressive entries

anyway it's all good that's what this site basically is

sorry using ur thread for some escapism i’m not having the best night, slowbro

yea took me a while to get used to Darnielle’s voice too, it’s pretty nasally and offputting. eventually though it just gets really emotive in a familiar way and you come to love it

song-writing wise tho he’s definitely simplistic, especially w early material. things get more complex on later albums but (IMO) at the cost of the emotional potency sometimes and that’s what gets me to like them

but tastes differ, just thought perhaps, maybe, i could put u on one of my favorite bands on this night

i didn't really like it. i don't really care for the vocalist's voice and he kind of reminds me of an ugly mix of weird al and colin meloy. the song itself wasn't really bad but was a little overly simplistic and i dunno.
about 7 years
no that’s only fair, I think for me it just kinda depends on what the artist is shooting for

https://youtu.be/ii6kJaGiRaI

how do u feel about this song then
deletedabout 7 years
not trying to be horrible but i don't really care about lyrics if the song's not good

like good lyrics is always a plus but i usually don't pay attention to them unless i like the way the song sounds in the first place

that's not to imply anything about the mountain goatse but i'm just Saying

also if you ever wanna wrench your heart out just listen to “the Sunset tree”
about 7 years
interesting, they’re my favorite new discovery of 2017

i’d say if lyrics are important to you then nobody writes a beautifully lyrical song like John Darnielle. like, absolutely no one. he is the best

but if you just don’t care about lyrics then they’re not worth your time

i haven't listened to them but i had a friend who was really into them. she was kind of a .

overall i tend to confuse them and ajj in my head a lot because i'm dumb
