android and windows are almost identical in how much you can customize/work around with them and how open sourced they really are. linux is almost nothing like either, though i will agree that linux is a bit closer to OSX than windows
actually great points. i don't really hate android on its own, oxygenos and stock are both great alternatives to iOS. what i mostly hate about it is just the simple fact that it's a google service and thus my data is constantly being harvested in exchange for services that i live just fine without.
but i do agree that android mostly does have more functionality as a basic os than iOS does. most of the hardcore issues, such as the thousand dollar Samsung note 9 having the worst crash statistics of any $499+ flagship phone in the past 5 years, come mostly from manufacturer and carrier skins than the actual android os. but still. i care a lot about privacy and let myself slip into the iOS ecosystem because of it, so to me android is out of the equation entirely just because of how much love i have for Apple/iOS services that i simply can't get on android (Apple Watch, AirPods integration, iMessage, Guided Access, advanced privacy settings, Tweetbot, etc)
as someone who uses windows but prefers macos i feel like most of the differences between both are similar to android vs ios
windows has a stronger, but not EXTREMELY strong, embrace on the more coding-oriented end of computing. eg "want something done, do it yourself." some people prefer this, but many don't and for good reason.
Not really, I would say linux is a better comparison to android than windows, and linux is closer to OSX than windows.
I feel the same way as Altoid on Mac vs PC, and use Windows myself too for those reasons. but differently on Android and iOS and heres why.
I work for applecare and this isn't to say I'm an expert, because I'm actually a fan of iOS for the exact reasons Altoid listed. But I use android as a daily driver because, for me, it has the same capability of usability depending on the time you spend on it, just like with a PC vs a Mac. Anything you don't like about your android, you can change, 100% guaranteed. Some changes take work and some take very little. I run very happily on OxygenOS on a OnePlus phone with smart launcher, and can turn root, and all gapps on and off without affecting usability, when I need it (and recently now without unlocking my bootloader).
iOS is a very intuitive, user friendly os with great tools and hardware, they're very good devices, but obviously famously pretty locked down in terms of what all you can do to it, and thats including with after jailbreaking it. If that's no problem, and all you need is a smart phone with all the features you'd expect and pretty okay customer support, and you don't really intend to do any real modification to it, they're top notch.
If you have the time, its worth learning how to work around your android devices, find a rom you like, different launchers. You also have a lot of different options in terms of the "kind" of phone you want, and what hardware you want with it.

the reason why i use windows more is because i understand computers very well and don't normally mind this more DIY-oriented way of doing things. the reason i prefer macos, however, is because i live by this phrase: "i don't mind complex things being difficult, but i hate when things are difficult for no reason."
pretty much how i feel about ios vs android as well. i heavily prefer and use ios because it's something that shouldn't be difficult to use, and as a result of apple being competent and in-touch with their userbase, it ISN'T difficult to use. android can be at times, and for no good reason.
anyways, back on topic: windows wins in being more DIY-oriented, for gaming, and in that it's a lot more accessible because it's somewhat open-source (at almost the exact same level as android). macos wins in being simpler for all the right reasons and generally being smoother due to vertical integration. it all depends on your use case really, but as a primary console gamer who prefers linux for their main DIY computing experience, i heavily prefer macos.
also apple knows how to make hardware. incredible battery life, thin devices, big trackpads, beautiful screens, good keyboards (probably where they could improve the most), lightning fast biometrics. i'd probably still prefer a windows desktop any day of the week, though.
mac vc pc is basically the same as apple vs android argument. the latter can do more/is more useful but the former is a symbol of status and wealth and if u don't have one ur a peasant
i dont get why every1 says mac is better for art or w/e like. pc can run pretty much every program it can? in fact there are sum programs that mac cant even run like. paint tool sai... i remember when i was a wee lad and was maczoned due to my own family's bias and i had to download a really sketchy file from deviantart at the risk of getting viruses so tht i could use paint tool sai...and also mac doesnt have mspaint so like whats the point
there r plenty of art programs that are like sai or mimic classic mspaint (new mspaint is just a corny art program, anything can do pixels if thats what ur looking for)
mac is the industry standard for art and design. while adobe products work perfectly fine on other os, i feel at the least the mac and adobe branding/ui are compatible because they were made to work together. im not saying it justifies paying THAT MUCH to make art on a mac, but freaks have brand loyalty and love to pay for a quirky design.
