huh this one seems to be really easy, i'm confused: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unroot-android-devices-manually/ the first option there shouldn't lose any of your data. not sure if there's another issue with OTA updates after that but you should be fine. :)

http://www.technobuzz.net/unroot-factory-reset-nexus-devices-quickly/ this is an alternative. I'm pretty sure that you definitely have to reset the phone. You might be able to download the rom from the internet instead of doing the built-in update though.
