I've played smash exclusively with GCN controllers as well but paying 100$ for an adapter isn't worth it atm. It's just better to get used to new controllers and adapt so that if you ever are playing and there's no GCN controllers, you'll be ready with alternatives.
That's nice. I'm out in the middle of nowhere in eastern Washington for my uni. It's a 6 hour drive with wheat fields and a whole lot of boring when it comes to driving. Let me tell you, eastern and western washington are nothing alike.
I fly down shane, and its about an hour and a half flight. It'd take probably 10-12 hours driving, luckily for me my parents are nice enough to shell out money for plane tickets
Gamepad works just as fine. I've had a lot of moments where I just say forget a TV, so the gamepad pretty much works as a larger pro controller. I'd say that learning how to use the gamepad is important if you want to play in bed or just don't have a tv available.
Have you not adjusted to using the pro controllers? Just swap the grab and shield and it's perfectly fine.

i should do another one, i like smash 64 best because i can put on some music and just listen to an album while zoning out and practicing combos in training mode
Smash 4 wii u is fun. It's probably the most balanced of the smash games i'd say and the online really depends on your connection (although it's better than brawl if that means much.)
Even if you hate it, it's a nice game to have if you can find 7 people to play smash.
