Favorite things about admin:

Helping newer players get comfortable with the site was the most rewarding thing. Being able to persuade lucid to merge the lobbies was also pretty cool. I really liked building the mod team as well and helping them out both as mods and as people.

least favorite:

The time commitment was huge and it took a lot out of you. Having to babysit the site seemingly 24/7 was brutal. I didn't like dealing with banned users and people complaining to me over skype about different things. Arguing with the community really wore me out too. I would've lasted way longer if lucid killed the forums

Hey Anthony, doing well man. Hope all is good out west.

Top ten favorite is really challenging. There are a lot of people I enjoy playing with, but honestly after I became a mod I started playing so infrequently it is tough to say.

Bernin is definitely the favorite though. We have good chemistry in games and we don't really meta read each other super well so it's not like the other is screwed if we are on opposite sides. Playing with the old "A Team" (Bernin, arcbell, chooksy, jazz) was probably the most fun I had. I've definitely always enjoyed games with you as well, albeit we haven't played together too much. I'd have to really think to make a list though.

@cute as in passion fruit tea? I'm generally not crazy about fruity flavored tea. I do enjoy lychee black tea though.

@bear I will make a separate post.

Hey Matt, doing well. Hope all is good by you too. Welcom back to the mod team.

Hi sigma!! I hope you are doing well. We are due to catch up. Skype me later.

Satan, my advice would be to wait for something you want as long as you're willing to wait. At the same time, don't limit yourself.

Like I made a mistake once of being offered a temp gig and telling them I needed to think about it since I had other interviews. One was full time that I had interviewed for 3 weeks prior and I had another interview lined up that Monday. This job would've paid okay and was good experience. I asked for them to wait, and over the weekend the other two fell through and then this one had hired someone else by Monday. Nothing is a guarantee with jobs so just go with what feels palatable. If you get something less desirable then you can always switch later possibly

hi i'm here to take shelter from the small storm cloud forming in complaints.

do you recommend taking the first available job (in this job market), or would you wait it out for responses from other jobs that you are excited for?

Hi Jill I am well. Hope bio is palatable today.

Wakemeup, not totally sure. Google would be good. I didn't get any scholarships for academics or financial needs, so I never looked into it much

Hey Dan!!! I'm in bio again how are you

Glad to help man.

Definitely. The first job is pretty important since it sets the tone for your career. Try to get into what you want to do.

While job hunting, I recommend creating something relevant to your field. Perhaps a blog on the current state of marine biology, or a topic you're interested in and find relevant to your career. It'll give people looking at you as a candidate a better understanding of who you are, your writing skills, and show a sense of personal ownership, confidence and drive.

This was better than any resume workshop i could have gone to. god bless Dan.

Seriously though, thanks a lot! I'll definitely keep those tips in mind over the next few months.

For anything else, just being charismatic, detail-oriented and coming off as interested rather than desperate is the right way to go.

If you reach out to someone you want to work with, ask them for advice on getting into the field or if they know any good resources to learn more about a certain topic. Most people would be happy to help you as they like talking about their own experiences. When I was in school, I had an hour long conversation with the Head of HR at a large beauty company through a referral like that, and it was very insightful. Nothing came of it, but that doesn't mean nothing will down the road. People remember the impressions you make on them.
