just got around to watching Heat Guy J, an old favorite of a friend of mine.

it's fairly generic in many ways, especially the character designs, but for some reason, the dialogue and the plot make it just intriguing enough to keep watching. also, J is always entertaining.

there's some flagrant errors in terms of storyline development (what did androids have to do with anything and why were they banned exactly? what purpose did the celestials have at all?), and the deus ex machina J is pretty much everywhere. however, it's still heartfelt and amusing enough to stay with it.

7.5/10, the dub is solid and the music is surprisingly catchy. action and character -development- is good enough to keep watching. def not worth a rewatch, though.

One day soda cans across Japan start turning into girls, each desperately needing to drink their respective soda to live (in what essentially comes across as self-feeding vampires). But the real reason they’ve suddenly appeared is so the “aluminum can” girls and “steel can” girls can fight to the death for superiority in a plot that reads as “Transformers versus Decepticons if both sides wore short skirts and were heavily sponsored by beverage companies.”

I'm finally traveling the path of elitism and watching legend of the galactic heroes. Truly, a show of the greatest.

Too bad the ending was utter crap. It's more like an 8/10 show that's entertaining in the first half, but slowly goes downhill with a lame end.

i agree that the last two episodes could have been better, but idk, i think it all added up rather nicely. not sure i agree with second half being weaker, since a lot of the more interesting philosophical bits come in that half.

oh and hellsing tv is uh... well, watch it for yourself. dont expect it to be amazing imo

goodness; dubs are usually not always as great as the original.

While I'm not someone who has a recognizable level of fluency in Japanese, I can kind of understand them a lot better if I listen to original audio with English Subtitles. Does everything translate? no, probably not. But i'd rather not lose some nuances that sometimes localizations/dubs tend to omit at times. There are often many fascinating and subtle undertones of culture you miss by watching a dubbed anime...especially when the dub is more of a localization to be targeted at another audience.

i think that was a problem in the past with dubbing that has become a lot less of an issue nowadays...

the thing is, there are many nuances in terms of tone and diction that you will not grasp because you dont know the language that is being spoken. a good dub does the job of translating the aural subtleties of spoken language; a bad dub obviously forgoes that and instead replaces it with their own interpretations, or injects western culture in lieu of the original reference

it is def an issue for dubs prior to 2000, i'd say, but since then, it's gotten a lot better imo

yea i watched the dub of parasyte... it was really impressive, esp. compared to sub. gonna have to say it's another case where the dub is leagues better than the sub, at least for me.

I honestly didn't really like Shinichi's voice in the dub, I thought the sub voices were a lot better for Shinichi and Migi, but that was just my opinion. I did try to watch the first few episodes of the dub when it came out but definitely preferred the sub myself.

And it's still a 10/10 anime. I agree that it went a little downhill towards the end and the ending was pretty ordinary but it was still a really great anime.

Hellsing Ultimate is very good. Actually been meaning to get through the original but only up to ep 5 for the moment.

HunterxHunter the remake, and Hellsing the remake. nothing to say more.

wow. rare that i get to say this: i just watched a 10/10 show, and it was an anime.

if you haven't seen parasyte yet, do yourself a favor - hang up your squeamishness, and settle in for an amazing spectacle.

it has definitely earned a spot on my top 10. i doubt it will fare much worse on your own lists.

He only watches dubs and the dub just got released. The dub is fantastic btw. I did the same thing I did for akame ga kill and watched it dubbed until the dub ran out and finished it subbed because I couldn't wait that long
