Viewpoints also vary in their acceptability over time.

I've never known you to do anything to make people really strongly dislike you for personal reasons. People rarely enjoy being told what to do though; so of course that'd affect your "popularity". Not that popularity here matters. Other people (like myself) lost their popularity for far worse things than telling people what to do on EM though.
