I chose to avoid addressing this last night because I felt that the hostile mob mentality that I would have had to deal with would have drowned out logical reasoning from both sides of the argument.

First: I'm here to serve the community. I intend to make each important decision based on what I think is in the site and its community's best interests. There's clearly some dissonance between what I think the community needs and what a vocal minority of it thinks it needs, and I'm willing to address that.

Second: I believe that people can change and reform. What someone did half a decade ago as a teenager who thought she had anonymity online should not be held against her this far into the future, especially when her behavior in the last year shows that she has changed significantly for the better.

I understand that some of the people who have posted with an opinion about Sammie were personally close to her and feel that she is being dishonest. If you can show me substantial proof that in the last year she has behaved in a way that suggests that she has not actually reformed, then I would ask that you bring it up with me in private and I will proceed from there.

Third: If you strongly oppose her being a moderator, then you should send her a message addressing your grievances. She has the capacity to step down if she believes that the community that she serves feels threatened by her, and you will have voiced your opinion in a much more civilized manner compared to what happened in this thread last night.
