this is worse than alien. he will never win unless he is cheating or he lives long enough to not be in the company of many visiting roles

So instead of having to guess who each player visits, I think it would be better to guess the target of each player. So this means there isn't the issue with watcher/oracle, since they don't actually 'visit'.

Also, for roles that have two targets, like hooker, the Chessmaster has to only guess one of the two.

For roles that don't have a non-visitng night action (ex.watcher), does the Chessmaster have to guess "no one" in order for the prediction to be correct?
And also how would this work for roles that visit more than one person? Does the Chessmaster get to pick multiple people that are visited by one person at night?

In relations to the sandbox points brought up, I agree if there are multiple chessmasters, they get a meeting. And I think Their role-choice should be similar to that of the WW, so if you're in a typical 12p sandbox, the chessmaster is a third-party Spy (sees all roles in the game, not all possible). I also agree though, that this is more likely a comp role than a sandbox role, because this brings skill back to the game, and sandbox is about derp, not skill.

That's a legit point, Yarrr. But that sort of thing would be up to Lucid depending on how he would implement this (if he ever decides to).

I used to, well still do, have a hard time remembering which roles actually visit and which don't. Like for example, I'm pretty sure the oracle and watcher don't actually visit anyone despite choosing someone every night. I could imagine a lot of frustration in regards to newer players getting the role and that's something you might want to accommodate for?

It would only work in the sandbox, which in my opinion is fine.

or maybe even a knight** meeting (giggle) sorry, lame pun, i know!

i would suggest that this is a 3rd party group role, like cult.. multiple chessmasters should have a night meeting to discuss reads on people together.

i think if multiple chessmasters were in one game and they worked solo, their odds of winning would be greatly reduced.

also, might be interesting to get a report at the start of the day as to which predictions they had correct out of the list, or at least a number of correct predictions. this would make them more valuable to town if they decided to work with town, and would also make town face a serious debate of whether or not to take the chance of keeping the chessmaster around.

All visits... How many visits will you predict?
If you get one wrong, then...?

Yeah, Chessmaster sounds better. :)

Plussed. Also, isn't a big chess champion called a Grandmaster? I dunno, just another name possibility.

Magickid, that makes no sense. No one in sandbox would ever give two shits about this role. It is intended expressly for comp setups as a way to encourage wifom and to have a role that must make accurate reads on everyone in order to win. The combinatorial possibilities of visits in any given game make the probability almost negligible that the chessmaster can win by guessing alone. To win, the chessmaster must not only discern who PRs are, but also which role each person is (or at least what their affiliation is) and who they are most likely to want to visit. If implemented, it would perhaps be the only role in EM that is entirely dependent on the player's skill to win rather than random BS or just hoping your teammates are decent players. If that isn't suitable for comp setups, I don't know what is.

5 blues, 1 chessmaster.

Good for a sandbox role, methinks. I can't see it in comp, though. +k'd anyway.

To overpowered in setups that don't have a lot of different roles, and too annoying to be in setups that do have a lot of different roles.

this role is outstanding. I wouldn't say that if it's name wasn't chess master.. but the action fits the role PERFECTLY since chess is all about prediction. I love it so much.. but it would be nearly impossible with lots of people, but hell he can always survive to last little bit. would be a bitch in setups withs 80% blue / Nilla
