- beat old monk. 3-2 is always a super easy place even though it unnerves me a lot. it's a very unsettling experience, but i like that about it. maneaters are always frustrating because of the bridge though. as fights, they're not hard and manuevering around the space isn't as difficult as most would have you believe either, it's just that the bridge glitches out sometimes when you're near rubble and glues you in place. still, beat them on like the sixth or seventh attempt, which isn't amazing but w/e.
- this game has a stupidly large amount of places to grind even though you fundamentally never need to grind. going through the storm king's arena and killing the enemies there (which you should be able to easily one hit kill) with the ring of avarice equipped nets you like 10000 - 20000 souls in about a minute, if not less.i'm half considering grinding in it until i'm overleveled once i beat astraea and allant (both of which aren't terribly tough fights). i was getting tossed around in my ng+ playthrough on my old PS3 so i definitely think it'd be better to overlevel than be underleveled.
- sitting at a phosphorescent pole +3 and a rune shield. mephistopheles quest should give me two colorless demon's souls which'll let me max the pole and then i can focus on the rune shield. the phosphorescent pole is really neat and i like it a lot, even if it makes me dual wield it to get any sort of efficacy out of it.
- with me beating maneaters, this playthrough is essentially over. all i need to do is mephistopheles and pwwt selen vinland before i can tackle 1-3, 1-4, and 5-2 and storm to endgame.
I'm slowly making my way through demon's also, though I've only done 1-2, 2-1 and 4-1 so far.
Pretty good game though not as memorable as dark souls as of yet.

beat dragon god and storm king.
- dragon god has been and always will be a boss that i die to multiple times. i don't know why everyone say he's easy when trying to do his fight is a guaranteed batch of deaths for me.
- 4-2 spanked me so hard, jesus. i was just slightly underleveled and had a "since i've done it before it'll be easy" mentality. it trashed me so hardcore. the reapers are infuriating to deal with, even if actually killing them is easy. i burned through a lot of my grass on 4-2 and it's slightly concerning, but i'm hoping 3-2 and 1-3 won't be that bad and i'll be able to amass a decent base of it for the endgame stretch.
- saving valley of defilement for last, probably going to do pwwt since it's already at +1 and i don't think getting it to pwwt will be that difficult. it'd also probably be more of a hassle to do pbwt at this point so i'll save that for another playthrough. erstwhile i'm chucking myself off cliffs in stonefang tunnel to get another primeval demon.
- the worshipper of god doesn't give you the bonus items if you talk to saint urbain after rescuing him and your faith is below 20. all of the religious people in this game are dumb and i hate them.

got a functioning PS3 a few days ago and been replaying demon's souls in my quest to platinum it
things to note:
- beat 1-2, 2-2, 3-1, 4-1, and 5-1
- started as a magician, i don't know why everyone thinks the royal is better. the only advantage royals have is early fragrant ring (which is super easy to get anyway) and less points in luck. other than that magician is superior if you're going to be using magic
- got the phosphorescent pole, upgraded it, and i'm probably going to be upgrading and using it for the remainder of my playthroughs because it's a stupidly good weapon and i like it. also i have a spiked shield +6. i dunno if it's even a good shield since i remember almost nothing about shields in demon's souls, but i like the design and it's been serving me well so far
- flamelurker is still a really easy fight. i got to it in like 5 minutes, died once, and that was with one hit left. second time i just equipped the ring of magical sharpness and roflstomped him. why do people think he's the hardest boss? on my first playthrough i beat him on either my first or third try and that was while my roommate (at the time) was watching
- i keep getting impatient/distracted and dying to fights i beat on my first try (fool's idol, leechmonger)
