All votes are a waste as long as the electoral college exists.

thats why a 3rd party vote is never a waste whereas a red/blue vote is almost always a waste unless you live in a swing state

i think a group of individuals who aren't idiots could disprove arrow's theorem because it relies on pretty obvious failures and especially on a lack of communication. if the presidential election were decided by five people and they were in contact and all of them preferred gary johnson, they could easily elect gary johnson who aligns with their preferences. even if one or two people have different preferences, the majority just has to communicate to eachother their preferences to elect their candidate

wider society isnt as certain though so they all ironically waste their vote because they think voting who they want would be a waste of their vote

however arrow's theorem does not cover the presidential debate requirements in us politics which only requires a party reaches a certain percentage of the popular vote and not winning, because clearly if you participate in national debates you win over more voters who actually get to see your platform so to introduce third parties they don't start by winning but rather by unlocking avenues through which to spread their message
